Climate Change

Climate change is defined as the noticeable and long-lasting change in the weather  patterns ,climatologists  have obtained  data that is collected from over the years  all over the world that shows that the  climate and ecosystem is changing and this has allowed regions in different parts of the world and country  to be grounded into climatic regions that we know today , the rate of climate change has increased over the years due to factors such as global warming and other leading factors . The earth ‘s climate has changed thought out the years ,based on a research that was conduct by an agency it says that  in the last 650000 years there has been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat, within the abrupt end of the last ice age about 11700 years ago Marking the beginning of the modern climate era and human civilization. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in the earth’s orbit that changes the amount of solar energy (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). Climate change is believed  cause many impacts in Namibia (INC, 2002; Midgley et.al., 2004; Mfune and Ndombo, 2005; Karuaihe et al., 2007; Dirkx et al., 2008). Climate change will particularly affect the following sectors: agriculture, human health and well being, energy, infrastructure, biodiversity and ecosystems. To cite a few specific examples, climate change will cause or lead to: livestock losses, reduced grain/crop production and yields, severe water scarcity due to droughts and increased temperatures, a shift in malaria zones due to changing rainfall patterns, increase in solar radiation leading to more incidence of skin diseases, increased susceptibility to respiratory and gastro-intestinal infections due to drought as well as poor nutrition and poor sanitation.

The causes of climate change on ecosystem

1. Greenhouse gas this is a natural process that helps keep our atmosphere warm, enhanced the greenhouse effect increased the atmospheric concentration of the greenhouse gases so that more heat is absorbed and less heat escapes into the space so the atmosphere gets warmer and warmer .

2. Global warming this is also a causes of climate change on ecosystem as it is linked to human activities example of global warming is fossil fuel , Deforestation , intensive farming, and waste disposal can lead to climate change .Gases that also contribute to the greenhouse effect also include like.

3.water vapor - this is the most abundant greenhouse gas , but it is importantly it acts as a feedback to the climate as it is linked to the possibility of clouds and precipitation , marking it so of the mechanism to the greenhouse effect .

4. Carbon dioxide (CO2) - this is the most important component of the atmosphere , carbon dioxide that is released in the atmosphere through natural processes such as respiration and volcano eruptions and also by human activities such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels.

5.Nitrous oxide - this is a greenhouse gas that is produced by the soil cultivation that is practiced by commercial and organic fertilizer , and biomass burning . the impact of climate change are that climate change puts all forms of life on earth including human activities and may other in danger, when the temperature is higher it can lead to a decrease in the rainfall patters later leading to droughts which can also be an additional cost to the government to help out with drought relief programmes ,Rising in the sea levels , land and sea organisms will be damaged threating food production.

Solutions to climate change

1. Renewable energy - the first way prevent climate change is to move away from burning fossil fuels and look for other alternatives such as solar , wind , biomass and geothermal

2. Energy and water efficiency - producing clean energy is essential but reducing our consumption of energy and water by using more efficient devices such as light bulbs, innovative shower system

3. Sustainable transportation - promoting public transportation , carpooling , but also electric and hydrogen mobility, can definitely reduce CO2 emissions and thus fight global warming.

4. Recycle- adopting responsible consumption habit is crucial , be it regarding food production , clothing and cleaning products. Last but not least , recycling is an absolute necessity for dealing with waste

In conclusion addressing the issue of climate change requires a global effort to when it comes to limiting the speed at which the climate is change and finding different ways of implementing solutions to stop climate change by using renewable energy sources improving energy and promoting sustainable transpiration with the practical use of the 17 sustainable development goals mostly focusing on goal 13.

Deforestation

Deforestation is the act of removing existing natural vegetation that covers the soil or forest. It is typically done for human purposes such as agriculture, logging, and urbanization (. Lambin E. (1996) . Because these activities have a significant negative impact on the environment, economy, and society, deforestation is a major global concern.    One of the effects  that Deforestation has is the loss of biodiversity is the diversity of animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural environment. It is all the diverse sorts of life you'll find in one place. These many species and critters collaborate in complicated web-like ecosystems to keep things in balance and support life. Deforestation also contributes to climate change by reducing the levels of carbon dioxide that the nature absorb from the  atmosphere by increasing the concentration of the greenhouse gases.  The impact  of deforestation  affects us in so...

Rainfall in Namibia.

Namibia has been one of the few countries that have been recoding low levels of rainfall in Southern Africa .In the year 2023  high levels of rainfall have been recorded in the 2nd week of January 2023 in the Northern part of Namibia that lead to a flood , as a result of the flood areas like Ondjiva and other surrounding areas have been flooded , homes where under water, people walk from place to place in the means of water, such levels of rainfall are called the Efundja. Even though efundja creates catastrophic floods that harms property, roads, displaces people from their homes, and occasionally causes companies to lose income, it has also been a blessing in disguise for communities. In the typically dry region of the country, Efundja typically brings abundance of fish and water. Also, it enhances cattle grazing, as many northern farmers find it difficult to provide for their animals when it hasn't sufficiently rained. Structure such as schools are closed because they where...
